Mental Momentum

Fuel Your Mind. Protect Your Brain.
Neurosurgeon-Formulated Brain Health Supplements · Dr. Venita 'Brain' Simpson, MD

From the South Side of Chicago to the operating rooms of UT Southwestern Medical Center — Dr. Venita Simpson is a board-certified neurosurgeon, Clinical Assistant Professor, and one of the most respected voices in complex spine and brain surgery in the country. She completed her medical school training at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and went on to complete a complex spine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine — where she made history as the first Black female to ever complete a fellowship — and at MD Anderson. Her 87 five-star patient reviews are a testament to surgical outcomes that speak louder than any title. Along the way, she carried a nickname her teachers gave her as a child — Brain — because her ability to absorb, retain, and apply knowledge was simply unlike anyone they had ever seen. Mental Momentum is the natural extension of a lifetime spent inside the science of the mind: a neurosurgeon-formulated supplement line built for cognitive performance, memory care, mental health support, and long-term brain longevity.

WHO SHE IS

A Neurosurgeon. A Professor. A Scientist.And Always — Brain.

Dr. Venita Simpson grew up on the South Side of Chicago, completed her medical school training at Georgetown, and made history as the first Black female to complete a fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, before completing her complex spine fellowship at MD Anderson as well. Today she serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UT Southwestern. Her 87 five-star patient reviews are built on complex surgical outcomes most physicians never encounter. Somewhere inside that journey lived a nickname her teachers gave her long before any of it — Brain — because her ability to absorb, retain, and apply knowledge was simply unlike anyone they had ever taught.

THE MOMENT THAT DEFINED HER
At 11 years old, her pet hamster died. While other children grieved and moved on, Venita attempted to dissect it — because she had to understand what had failed inside the organs. Nobody taught her that instinct. It was simply who she was. That moment became a career. That career became a supplement line built on everything she has spent her life learning about the brain.

Doctors in the Beehive

Healing by Day. Beyoncé Forever.
The Community for Physicians Who Are Unapologetically in the BeyHive
Dr. Venita Simpson will tell you herself — Beyoncé gets her through surgery. On the days when a case is long, grueling, and demands every single thing she has, it is Beyoncé’s music catalog playing in that OR that carries her through. And the results? They speak for themselves. Dr. Simpson is unapologetically Black, unapologetically herself, and unapologetically a member of the BeyHive — in the operating room and everywhere else. She also advocates loudly for physician freedom in the OR: the right to play whatever music helps you perform at your absolute best. Beyoncé. Cardi B. Young Jeezy. T.I. Whatever gets you there. Doctors in the Beehive was born from that truth — a community for physicians who move through medicine with that same unapologetic energy.

The Story Behind the Brand

Beyoncé in the OR.Healing Has a Soundtrack.

Dr. Venita Simpson has said it herself — on the days when a surgery is long, complex, and demands everything she has, Beyoncé’s music catalog is what gets her through. Not as background noise. As fuel. As focus. As the energy that keeps her hands steady and her mind sharp when the stakes could not be higher. And the results in that OR? They speak for themselves.

Dr. Simpson is unapologetically Black and unapologetically herself — in the boardroom, in the lecture hall, and inside that operating room. Her playlist does not conform to anyone else’s idea of what a neurosurgeon should look or sound like. Beyoncé. Cardi B. Young Jeezy. T.I. Whatever gets her to her best — that is what plays. And she believes every physician deserves that same freedom.

Dr. Simpson is an active advocate for physician freedom in the OR — the right for surgeons to create the environment that allows them to perform at their absolute peak. Music is not a distraction. For her, it is a tool. And Beyoncé has been one of her most powerful ones.

Dr. Simpson's OR Playlist Influences
OR Freedom Advocacy
Dr. Simpson speaks openly about the right of physicians to create the environment — including the soundtrack — that helps them perform at their best. This is both a personal belief and a growing conversation in medicine.

Unapologetically Black · Unapologetically Herself

Dr. Venita Simpson does not code-switch for the OR, the boardroom, or the stage. Her Blackness, her culture, her music, her community — they are not separate from her medicine. They are part of what makes her exceptional at it. Doctors in the Beehive is the community for every physician who moves through this profession the same way.

Dr. Brain on the Stage

The Neurosurgeon Who Makes the Brain Make Sense.
Keynotes · Medical Conferences · Mental Health Partnerships · Corporate Wellness
Dr. Venita Simpson is a board-certified neurosurgeon and Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Originally from the South Side of Chicago, she completed her medical school training at Georgetown University School of Medicine and went on to complete a complex spine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine — where she made history as the first Black female to ever complete a fellowship — and at MD Anderson. She is a retired Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy Medical Corps, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and one of the most compelling voices in medicine today. Her 87 five-star patient reviews reflect surgical outcomes at the highest level of her craft. Somewhere along her journey — long before the degrees and the operating room — her teachers gave her a nickname that followed her all the way here: Brain. Not as a curiosity, but as a fact.
Her Story · Her Stage · Her Science

From the South Side of Chicagoto the Most Complex Cases in Neurosurgery.

Dr. Venita Simpson grew up on the South Side of Chicago — and she carried that city’s grit, culture, and fire every step of the way to becoming one of the country’s most accomplished neurosurgeons. She completed her medical school training at Georgetown University School of Medicine, then went on to complete a complex spine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine — where she made history as the first Black female to ever complete a fellowship — and at MD Anderson. She served her country as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy Medical Corps. Today she holds the title of Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Her surgical record speaks for itself — 87 five-star patient reviews, built through some of the most complex spinal and neurological cases in her field. She specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery, brain and spine tumors, spinal deformity, trauma, and revision spine surgery. The outcomes are not average. They never have been.

Long before the degrees, before the OR, before any of it — there was a little girl in Chicago whose teachers quietly passed along a nickname that no one ever questioned. They called her “Brain.” Not because someone decided to. Because she was simply that smart, that well-read, and that different. Her ability to absorb and retain information was unlike anything her teachers had encountered. She was so brilliant she could fall asleep in the middle of class, be called on mid-question, wake up — and answer it correctly.

At just 11 years old, her pet hamster died. While other children moved on, Venita did not. She attempted to dissect it — because she had to understand what had gone wrong inside. That moment of childhood grief, curiosity, and quiet courage was the first signal of who she was always going to become. That little girl is now the doctor, the professor, the speaker, the brand — and every stage she steps onto carries the full weight of that story.
