How much does a general ultrasound cost?

Our self-pay general ultrasound pricing starts at $299. Pricing may vary depending on the type of study ordered. We believe in transparent pricing with no surprise facility fees.

Do you accept insurance?

We are not currently accepting insurance, but we have mindfully created our pricing to accommodate patients without insurance coverage while maintaining transparent pricing with no hidden fees.

How long does an ultrasound appointment take?

Most ultrasound appointments take approximately 20–45 minutes depending on the study being performed.

How quickly will my provider receive results?

Ultrasound studies are interpreted by licensed radiologists, and reports are typically sent to your provider within 24–72 business hours depending on exam type and urgency.

Are your ultrasounds interpreted by radiologists?

Yes. Diagnostic imaging studies are reviewed and interpreted by board-certified radiologists.

What should I expect during my ultrasound?

Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging exam that uses sound waves to create images of the body. A trained sonographer will perform your exam while ensuring your comfort throughout the visit.

Do I need to prepare for my ultrasound appointment?

Some ultrasound studies require preparation such as fasting or arriving with a full bladder. Our team will provide detailed instructions before your appointment.

Is ultrasound safe?

Yes. Ultrasound imaging does not use radiation and is considered one of the safest imaging modalities available.

Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?

Yes. To maintain a calm and intimate experience for every patient, appointments are limited to 1 additional guest.

What is the difference between diagnostic and elective ultrasound?

Diagnostic ultrasounds are medically ordered exams used to evaluate symptoms or medical conditions and are interpreted by radiologists. Elective ultrasounds are non-diagnostic bonding experiences intended for keepsake imaging during pregnancy.

What makes Luma Imaging Center different?

Luma Imaging Center combines advanced imaging technology with a modern, patient-centered experience. Our goal is to provide high-quality imaging in a comfortable, welcoming environment with transparent pricing and exceptional care.

OB Ultrasound Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Elective 3D/4D Ultrasound?

Elective 3D/4D Ultrasound are non-diagnostic ultrasound experiences designed for bonding, keepsake imaging, and creating memorable moments during pregnancy. These sessions allow families to see baby movements, facial features, and hear the heartbeat in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Are elective ultrasounds safe?

Yes. Ultrasound imaging uses sound waves and does not involve radiation. Elective ultrasounds at Luma Imaging Center are performed responsibly and professionally using high-quality ultrasound technology.

Do elective ultrasounds replace medical prenatal care?

No. Elective ultrasounds are not intended to replace prenatal care or diagnostic imaging ordered by your healthcare provider. We strongly encourage all patients to continue routine prenatal care with their OB/GYN or midwife.

When is the best time for a 3D/4D ultrasound?

The ideal time for 3D/4D imaging is typically between 24–34 weeks of pregnancy. During this stage, babies often have more visible facial features and movements while still having adequate room for imaging.

When can gender be determined?

Gender confirmation is typically available starting around 14 weeks, depending on baby positioning and imaging conditions.

What if baby is not in a good position during my appointment?

Sometimes babies may be facing away or positioned in a way that limits imaging. Our sonographers will do their best to encourage repositioning during your session. In certain situations, a brief rescan may be offered at provider discretion.

How long are the ultrasound sessions?

Session lengths vary depending on the package selected:

  • First Glimpse Package: 15–20 minutes
  • Gender Reveal Experience: 20–25 minutes
  • Signature 3D/4D Experience: 25–30 minutes
What is included with my ultrasound experience?

Each package includes:

  • Premium ultrasound experience
  • Heartbeat stuffed animal
  • Framed printed ultrasound photo
  • Digital images and/or video depending on package
  • Large-screen viewing experience
  • Comfortable luxury suite
Can I bring family or children to the appointment?

Yes. To maintain a calm and intimate experience for every family, appointments are limited to 2 additional guests.

Can I purchase additional keepsakes?

Yes. Additional keepsakes are available including:

  • Additional framed printed photos — $20 each
  • Additional heartbeat stuffed animals — $45 each
  • Full ultrasound video recording — $25
Do you accept insurance for elective ultrasounds?

Elective OB ultrasounds are self-pay services and are not covered by insurance. We are not currently accepting insurance, but we have mindfully created our pricing to accommodate patients without insurance coverage while maintaining transparent pricing with no hidden fees.

Will I receive medical results from my elective ultrasound?

No. Elective ultrasounds are non-diagnostic and do not provide medical evaluations, measurements, or reports. If there are ever concerns identified during your visit, we may recommend follow-up with your healthcare provider.

What should I wear to my appointment?

We recommend comfortable two-piece clothing that allows easy access to the abdomen for imaging.

Do I need a full bladder?

For early pregnancy ultrasounds, a full bladder may improve imaging quality. Our team will provide preparation instructions prior to your appointment if needed.
