What is Pediatric Occupational Therapy?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Prima Home Health Care\u2019s pediatric occupational therapy focuses on helping children build the skills they need to successfully manage everyday tasks that someone of the same age typically encounters. For younger children, this may include learning to play with toddler toys, drinking from a bottle, or rolling over. A preschool child\u2019s daily tasks may involve dressing themselves, feeding themselves, and playing with other children. As children grow older, pediatric occupational therapy ensures they can function as independently as possible in self-care and school activities. Therapy may address developmental skills, fine motor tasks, sensory integration, visual-motor skills, gross motor play, and other areas of need.<\/p>

Our pediatric occupational therapists (OTs) at Prima Home Health Care work with infants and children who have difficulties with cognitive functions, movement, or coordination. Patients may have a wide range of conditions, including neurological concerns, orthopedic injuries, spinal cord damage, muscular dystrophy, or other motor disorders.<\/p>

The role of a pediatric occupational therapist includes analyzing and treating skeletal, neuromuscular, or cognitive challenges. Our OTs help children improve interaction and communication skills, refine motor abilities, and learn self-care tasks, especially as they grow older. Because many of our patients are too young to understand verbal instructions, therapy often incorporates play-based activities to spark engagement and cooperation.
